it is day 7 without power for thousands of customers still reeling from friday's storms. dominion power has 1000 customers without power.

bge crews are busy with more than 25,000 outages and most of them are in baltimore. delia has more from montgomery county, where nearly 6000 pepco customers are waiting for the light to come on. just looking at the damage, no doubt last week's storm packed a powerful punch, especially here in chef have i chase -- chevy chase. no relief in sight for this homeowner after a tree toppled down during a wind storm, crushing his sunroom and his car on leland street. >> yesterday, finally somebody came and took it off the wire, so we could get our company to come in and take the tree out. >> reporter: meanwhile, right across connecticut avenue, crews began to clean up. the and restoration process gets underway, albeit slow. >> my husband's car was smashed

and totaled, under the okay tree -- under the oak tree. mine is blocked in the driveway. i have no idea when that will be free for me to drive. >> reporter: while jean is patiently waiting on pepco, a mile away, john is running out of patience with no power, a destroyed house and a sick caughter at home -- daughter at home. >> they have been given plenty of warning. exactly a week later we still have no power. >> reporter: pepco estimates most customers will be online by midnight,ton, however there are a few folks, like this man, who won't see power until at least sunday. for those without air conditioning the city of fairfax will have cooling centers open this weekend.

tomorrow the old town hall on university drive will operate as a cooling center. residents are encouraged to bring their electrical devices. it is a safe bet the cooling center will be crowded. we are under a heat alert. howard? >> reporter: j.c., once again, temperatures in the 90s. that happened early. the last couple of hours we have been in the 90s. with the heated some humidity around the heat index could get to 105 this afternoon, actually got expanded into the shenandoah valley. they thought hey, temperatures are climbing a little bit more quickly, so we are going to add them as well. we have actually seen the temperature drop a degree,

still 93 in baltimore. upper 80s to even 90 in hagerstown in the shenandoah valley. once again we are taking -- baking along. drier air filtered in and it done feel as oppressive as it has. still have a couple of days we have to deal with the extreme heat, maybe even into sunday. a few showers and storms well to the southwest of us, but lots of sunshine today. sunny skies. for the afternoon, likely going to climb into the upper 90s. the wind gets off the water, that will keep us from getting to 100 off land. 94 still at 9:00 p.m. we have a threat for strong to severe storms and relief from the 7-day forecast. j.c., back to you. thank you, howard. the economy added 80,000 more jobs last month, how will the increase help the overall jobs

picture? drew levinson has answers. >> reporter: employers continued hiring in june. the economy added 80,000 new jobs. that was less than expected. and the overall unemployment rate remained at 8.2%. diana knows firsthand about the weak job market. she was laid off in the treatter industry. >> when you realize you are doing everything right and you are still not getting a job, it makes it so frustrating. >> reporter: the first half of the year the economy has gained an average of 150,000 jobs a month, down from last year. and a sign the labor market is losing steam. the retail industry, transportation and government all cut jobs in june. but manufacturing added 11,000, the ninth straight month of gains, healthcare and financial services also increase hiring. president obama commented from

the battleground state of ohio. she finally landed a job at a nonprofit and hopes to be from for a long time. she says keeping a positive as tude is a good thing. >> hiring in june picked up slightly from the previous two months, but nearly 13 million americans are looking for work. drew levinson, cbs news, new york. a 12-year-old boy has been charged with second degree murder. he is accused of beating to death his two-year-old foster sister. police were called to her home on taylor street in fort washington maryland, on tuesday night. officers found two-year-old anaya bachelor unresponsive. she was pronounced dead a short time later. and an autopsy revealed she died from blunt trauma. the 12-year-old suspect is being held at the shellen ham youth

80,000 jobs were added in june, leaving unemployment stuck at 8.2%. the president talked about the numbers in ohio. >> we can't be satisfied, because our goal was never to just keep on working to go back to where we were in 2007. >> reporter: the president is using this bus tour to convince voters in critical swing states that he has the right approach for turning around the economy. >> we are going to bet on the american worker. we are going to bet on american industry. >> reporter: white house officials say despite the weak jobs numbers, the economy is growing, pointing out that this is the 28th straight month the country has added jobs. >> we have seen the jobs report this morning and it is another kick in the gut to middle class families. >> reporter: vacationing in new hampshire, republican presidential hopeful mitt romney called a news conference to offer his own take on the numbers. >> the president doesn't have a

distance. >> as i got closer i could tell it was a bird. i couldn't leave it there so i decided to give it a shot and see if i could grab it. >> reporter: the exhausted, frightened bird turned out to be a one-year-old bald eagle, sick and strand in long island sound. >> it had about a six foot wing span, it was very intimidating. it was a lot bigger when i pulled it out of the water than i thought it was. >> reporter: he placed the weakened bald eagle into his cabin. he immediately called his wife, an animal rehabilitate tore. >> refirst thought the eagle was blind, eyes were crusted over, very thin, it was crawling with lice. >> reporter: transported to donna's vet center for fluids and antibiotics, regained her eyesight and on to a new jersey raptor center. >> we called her indy for independence day and we knew finding a bald eagle was quite

record highs in chicago. st. louis has stopped 100 every day this month so far. big storms this morning across minnesota. there is a cold front up there, that front is our savior, going to get here probably late sunday. triple-digit heat, 105 in st. louis today, only in the 70s in bismarck. tomorrow we are looking still at the 105-106-degree temperatures in st. louis. around here i think 103, 104. certainly attainable for your saturday afternoon in the 70s and 80s across the western lakes. that is going to drop more into new england. the problem for us on sunday won't be the heat. it will be the stretch for strong storms. the hot weather with us. only about 80 for the low in town. saturday isolated storms, by sunday as that front starts to
